Phillips Exeter Academy, a co-educational residential school serving students in grades 9 through 12, and post-graduate level, was founded in 1781 by John Phillips. The Position
Reporting to the costume designer & shop manager, this position assists the costume designer & shop manager to construct, organize, and execute costumes for three dance and three theater productions at Fisher Theater for the 2017-2018 Academic year. Key accountabilities include:
• Works closely with the costume designer & shop manager to construct costumes (possibly draping, cutting, stitching).
• Facilitates the production of costumes by analyzing patterns from costume renderings, sketches, and instructions produced by the designer
• Assists in pulling garments from stock for productions.
• Assists with alterations generated from fittings and dress rehearsals; and facilitates necessary costume painting, dyeing and distressing.
• Assists with organizational paperwork including piece lists, tracking budget, and check-in sheets.
• Assists with garment organization and inventory management in both Fisher Theater and Davis Dance wardrobe stock. Regular cleaning and organization during the term as well as large-scale deep clean at end of term.
• Assists with measurements and fittings for students involved in all productions. Updates measurement binder as necessary for current school year.
• Interprets and executes notes from shop manager.
• Labels costume garments.
• Assists with laundering garments post-production, and during production if necessary.
• Organizes clean garments and return to designated place in Fisher or Davis wardrobe stock.
• Reorganizes hair and makeup supplies post-performance.

Part-time position Academic year (fall, winter, and spring terms); 10-12 hours/week throughout academic week. Flexible hours Monday – Saturday. Hours will increase closer to productions in preparation of the program.

Skills
Education
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associates or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience
• Basic stitching skills required
• Previous costume or fashion construction is preferred.

Skills & Knowledge
• Requires superior interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills.
• Must be detailed-oriented, organized, and able to multi-task.
• Must have an interest in problem solving and be able to work under moderate pressure.
• Ability and willingness to collaborate well with students and colleagues.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity and to serving the needs of a diverse and inclusive community with diplomacy and tact.
